WORKSHOP: For dams and reservoirs, one of the greatest threats is sedimentation, and sediment bypass structures are one of few feasible methods for preventing such reservoir filling.
The costs involved construction of such sediment bypasses is high, and the potential additional value these bypasses could provide in terms of fish migration should be explored. Solutions that could function both for downstream sediment transport and up- and downstream fish migration, have the potential to make hydropower operations more economically and ecologically sustainable.
The aim of the workshop is to have people with knowledge on sediment bypass solutions meet and discuss with people working on migration of fish past hydropower constructions to identify design solutions and/or overlapping design criteria that would allow combining these two objectives.
